Interesting Portals. Garden Gates and Doorways. photos, poetry,pictures..
72As one door closes another opens....
it happens all the time.
We pass through challenges,
walk new roads, hopefully...
learn from our experiences.
Gates can be a feature in a garden

A very short story...
The grass was still wet with morning dew, so she slipped off her shoes to run across the lawn. Laughing she unlocked the gate, he turned hearing the metal bolt slide open. He stepped forward and takes the carpet bag from her and tosses it into the back of the car.
"See you next week." he said. She returned to the big house to cook his Lordship's breakfast.
The police where there all day, the only sign of forced entry was a pantry window. Every one decided it must have been a opportunistic thief and a small agile one at that who had stolen her Ladyships best silver teapot and pearls.
Stella smiles to herself as she sweeps up the broken china. When she leaves by that gate next time he will meet her with the steamer tickets to start their new life together.
Why photographs of gates and doorways?
Gates and doorways photographed over the years. Pictures here are of English garden gates and doorways.
My father had a favourite saying "as one door closes another opens" and I hope that he was right. Maybe that is why I find gates and doorways so interesting to photograph.
For as long as I can remember I have found some garden gates and doorways interesting and artistic.
Consequently I have acquired a small archive of photographs of them. Originally they were meant to inspire embroideries and paintings.. but that never happens. So here are some of my pictures of portals and poetry inspired by them.
Reasons not to spend your life looking for a time portal...
Time is not a portal...
it is a moment. The future
is out of sight. The past is blurred..
the past is recall and each memory
is independent and differs.
The past is a mosaic, of shattered pieces
that we try to hold together. The future is our dream.
But today, now is our golden hour.
Open the door, look, listen, breathe, love.
In some areas of England flint ( the stones set into the wall ) is a traditional building material. They were mostly used to build walls and cottages near the coast.
The Darkling Thrush
by Thomas Hardy
The Darkling Thrush
I leant upon a coppice gate,
When Frost was spectre-gray,
And Winter's dregs made desolate
The weakening eye of day.
The tangled vine-stems scored the sky
Like strings of broken lyres,
And all mankind that haunted nigh
Had sought their household fires.
