There are many reasons to visit Greece for a holiday, the food, the people and the places here are some of the things you can experience on a holiday trip to the Greek islands. Do you want to see a blue sea ... why not take a boat trip from a Greek Island.
Most of the Greek Islands I have visited have day boat trips to nearby locations. Some islands like Zante have trips to special destinations. From Zante you can take a day boat trip go to see the famous ship wreck beach. From Santorini you can visit and walk on the volcano island called Nea Kameni. Corfu has frequent boat trips to visit the lovely island of Paxos.
Corfu has some lovely boat trips and from some of the resorts instead of getting the bus to Corfu town you can take a boat trip to visit Corfu town in the day or the evening to shop and take a lesiurely stroll through the streets of the town. Corfu town is cooler in the evenings. There are also boat trips around Corfu's picturesque coastline.
Kefolonia has day boat trips to the famous island of Ithaka.

My Travel to Greek Islands.
A Greek island is my idea of the ideal place to visit for a vacation. I have been taking holidays to the islands of Greece for almost ten years. The first island I visited was Corfu and I liked it so much that we returned there and the area we visited around Kassiopi was a good choice for us. That was our introduction to the pleasure of dining out in the evening in Greece. The boat trips that go from the harbour there to Corfu town and other destinations were a wonderful way to spend a day. It was Corfu that made me want to visit other Greek islands, so I have that island to thank for making me want to travel to the other islands to explore them.
Since the trip to Corfu, we have explored Santorini, Crete, Kefalonia, Zante and Kos and taken day trips to Paxos and other small islands including the volcanic island of Nea Kameni when visiting Santorini.

and see interesting caves and maybe dolphins.
Many of the Greek island have wonderful and fascinating caves that the boat trips will take you to see. Some of the caves are carved out of the rock by the action of the sea, some take the form of natural arch ways. The water in some of the caves seems to be almost unbelievably blue and the shades of the colour ranges from turquoise through green to almost indigo.
On a couple of occasions while on boat trips from a Greek island I have been lucky enough to see dolphins swim alongside the boat.

From Santorini Island - you can visit and walk on the volcano Nea Kameni. Later in the day from some of the boat trips you can be leave the boat at the harbour of Ia and if you are brave enough ride a donkey up the donkey steps. Or if you are fit and brave enough you can climb up the 'donkey steps' while running the gauntlet of avoiding the galloping donkeys and whilst also watching where you place your feet.
Santorini has many beaches because it is a volcanic island some of them have black sand.

hi Donna It is the winter that makes the photos of the Greek islands look even more invitng. Yes we too have that and it can last to February when things begin to brighten. I have noticed that it gets lighter a bit earlier here now in the mornings. When I worked a forty hour week in winter I would go to work in the dark and return home in the dark - the eight hours in between I worked in a building with no windows. It was at that time that I started to spend my Summer holidays in the Greek Islands. With the sunshine and boat trips I felt like a bird freed from a cage. Soon it will be warm enough to begin to plant things here and that will be great.

Hi Micky the Greek Islands are lovely, but I do not think you would want to cycle there, even in a hire car the roads are not always good.
One day I would like to go and island hop on the ferries from island to island, for now if I am lucky I get to see one a year.

Hi 2uesday, well it is bloody cold here today but not as cold as last year so far so we consider ourselves lucky.
Wouldn't it be nice to be in Santorin or Kriti now! Excellent article and the photos too. I am fighting something we call January doldrums. I forget if you have that in England.
