An English Garden in Summer. A Visit To East Ruston Old Vicarage Garden with pictures, photographs.

The Old Vicarage garden is at East Ruston Norfolk in England.

This garden is like walking through a living three dimensional art gallery. Each time you turn a corner a different landscape opens up to you. Yet it flows seamlessly from one wonderful visual surprise to the next. I will not post all of my pictures here. I got carried away and took lots of photographs; and if I posted them all here it would be like reading a book and revealing the end to someone waiting to read it next.

Anyone who loves plants, garden design and colour would find it difficult to find the equal of this garden .

This is gardening on a large scale but the ideas here could give inspiration and motivation to any gardener. The plant combinations used and the way colours shapes and textures are combined and contrasted could in some cases be adapted to a more modest space.

There are many themes here and some of the planting ideas are brave but for me they worked. You are not far into your walk around the garden when you realise what an amazing achievement its creation is.

I have only visited this garden in the summer but it is so well designed I think it would be a pleasure to see it at any time of the year.

My Visit to Old Vicarage Gardens East Ruston.

For me this is the best garden I have ever visited; It has so many wonderful ideas skillfully put together in one garden such as meadow areas, traditional and more 'formal' areas such as the topiary in the photographs above.

I visited the Old Vicarage Garden in June it was a lovely sunny day which made taking the photographs of it easy.  I had visited it about five years ago and I was amazed at how much had changed in that time, if you wish to read more about the evolution of the garden a visit to the Old Vicarage web page is worth while.

East Ruston Old Vicarage Garden is situated one and a half miles from the North Sea. The house and some of the land was purchased in 1973 but if you want to read more of its history and to find about out who created it you need to visit the garden or at least the web site created about it.

Twice the trees that would obscure a view are used to frame the scene. The walkway leads you to it and the frame of the trees draws your attention to it.

Thanks for looking at this page. Maybe I will have to send some English rain to Greece to keep the grass that green in Summer.

I love old English Gardens. When we were younger we lived in a house that my parents bought from an English couple. The wife loved gardening (and funny enough their name was Flowerdue, not sure about the spelling). Anyway the garden was lovely and ideal for children we had all sorts of adventures in that garden. I miss our old home and with the growth of Nairobi city it is now becoming rare to find single-standing homes with large beautiful gardens. I have bookmarked this hub its great for landscaping ideas.

How gorgeous .Have you ever heard of Mount Usher Garden in Wicklow? It's more of a woodland garden-but beautifully kept.We bought our house from the old head gardener-so he used a lot of his ideas here.Mind you, we have never quite done it the service he did!-some day!

Breathtakingly beautiful, thanks for sharing. Although I love colour in my gardens, the various greens of the topiary are stunning. I would love to visit it one day.

Thank you GMaGoldie I missed visiting this The Old Vicarage Garden this summer, so I am looking forward to my next visit. This is an amazing place to visit and the two gardeners who have designed and built it did so from scratch. I really like the way the landscape beyond the garden is incorporated into it in such a clever way - the cut out in the hedge. Thank you for leaving such a nice comment.
